MOSSEL BAY NEWS - For the first time in Mossel Bay the internationally acclaimed, SAMA-nominated quartet, The Cape Town Tango Ensemble, will perform at the Dias Museum on Saturday, 14 July at 19:30.
Attendance is free, but booking is essential.
It is the only known tango group on African soil performing tango that is played in dance halls the world over, as well as tango that can only be heard in dance halls.
The audience can look forward to music from Carlos Gardel, Anibal Troilo, Astor Piazzolla and many more. With Stanislav Angelov on accordion, Albert Combrink on piano, Petrus de Beer on violin, and Charles Lazar on double bass, this performance is not to be missed.
The hugely popular Cape Town Tango Ensemble was established by the classical accordionist Stanislav Angelov in 1996. The inspiration for this was the music of Astor Piazzolla – a great Argentinean composer of the 20th century and a bandoneón virtuoso.
Since 1996, besides studying the music and, importantly, the interpretation style of Astor Piazzolla, the interest of this group of musicians evolved and grew to include all styles of tango music.
It has released three CDs: El Tango en Africa, Tango Club and Tango Dreams, which are regularly played on Classic FM in Johannesburg and Fine Music Radio in Cape Town as well as many other radio stations in South Africa and abroad.
Doors open at 18:30. Book your seat now by contacting Abé Meintjes (083 268 3718).
