MOSSEL BAY NEWS - At least nine cases have been opened with the police following shop windows being broken in Mossel Bay since 14 September.
This is according to police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies. He says that that in all the nine cases, the windows of businesses were damaged.
Spies said investigations led to the arrest of a 46-year-old woman, who appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Monday, 23 September.
"The accused was positively linked to two cases. She was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to 26 September." Spies says the Mossel Bay Police are still seeking any information that could lead to arrests in the other cases of malicious damage to property.
Mossel Bay Advertiser previously reported that on 15 September, windows were broken at Found Thrifting in Church Street, The Cellphone Shop in Marsh Street, Green and Gold Liquors in Church Street and the Mossel Bay Town Hall in Marsh Street.
On 19 September, it was reported to the Advertiser that the windows of The 2nd Hand Warehouse and The 2nd Hand Clothing Warehouse, and Good as Gold were also broken. The Advertiser published CCTV footage of the shop window being broken at The 2nd Hand Clothing Warehouse on its website.
Spies says anyone with information on the cases is asked to contact Captain Jackie Grundlingh at the Mossel Bay Police Detective Branch (044 606 2835) or to call the Crime Stop number (08600 10111). "All information will be treated confidentially," he says.
