MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The windows of three Mossel Bay shops and three windows of the Mossel Bay Town Hall were broken on Sunday, 15 September.
Carmen Dundee, the owner of Found Thrifting in Church Street, Mossel Bay, said she came to her business on Sunday morning to find half a brick had been thrown through one of the windows of her shop.
Dundee said she had heard from a security guard that the incident took place just after 06:00.
"I heard that the security guard was busy with her patrols and came around the corner and saw a man near the window. The guard told me he ran away as soon as he saw her."
She said people had stole "a few things" from the shop before, but "this is the first time something like this has happened".
Shattered
Dundee noted: "The glass shattered everywhere and I spent the whole morning cleaning up the mess with my daughter. This was a pointless act of vandalism."

She opened a case at Mossel Bay Police Station.
Another shop targeted was The Cellphone Shop in Marsh Street, owned by Muhammad Ashiq. He said he had owned the shop since 2014 and although there had been a few break-ins, there had never been an act in which only a window was broken.
"It was for nothing," he said.
Large sticker
Ashiq said that luckily there was insurance to cover the broken window but that the large sticker, covering the window with the store's branding, was also damaged and expensive to replace.

Like Dundee, he said he opened a case with the Mossel Bay Police.
Benjamin Nel, the owner of Green and Gold Liquors in Church Street, says the glass of the shop front door was broken on Sunday morning.
He says he suspects it was the same person who broke the windows of the other two shops. Nel says he did not open a case with the police and that the glass will be replaced.

Town hall
Mossel Bay Municipality confirmed windows at the town hall were broken during the weekend.
It says the area in question is not covered by camera surveillance, but installing cameras is written up in the future planning pertaining to securing municipal infrastructures.
"Staff in the CCTV control room at the municipality’s Joint Operations Centre monitor the feed of 325 security cameras covering the greater Mossel Bay area 24 hours per day," it said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said Mossel Bay Police detectives are "investigating the circumstances surrounding damage caused to windows at two premises".
He said the investigation into this matter is under way and the suspect is still at large.
