MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Gerda Groenewald, manager of the Mossel Bay SPCA, has said in reply to a query on the feral cats at the harbour, that the SPCA is currently working at the harbour on a daily basis.
"Our dedicated inspectors are monitoring the feral cat colony closely and ensuring that any cats suffering from injury or disease are receiving the attention they so desperately need."
Groenewald said: "Our intention is to ultimately have a colony of healthy, well-fed cats who have all of their needs attended to. This entails trapping the cats and undertaking the necessary diagnostic tests, treatment and sterilisation of these animals. Sadly, this also means the euthanasia of some.
"The feral cat issue is not unique to the harbour or even to Mossel Bay; it is a concern throughout the country," Groenewald noted.

"Our SPCA is in desperate need of our community's support. These cats belong to our town. Please, if you feel you can assist by donating cat food on a regular basis, or by assisting us financially to cover the cost of the veterinary care for our harbour's cats, please do not hesitate to contact us on 044 693 0824.
"We thank the public for its continued and dedicated support."
