MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality reminds qualifying residents that they may approach the municipal offices at any time during the year to apply for indigent benefits.
The campaign to re-register valuation indigents ended on 31 January.
The municipality thanks all the people who took the trouble to go through the application process before that date and for the excellent co-operation in ensuring that the campaign was successfully concluded.
This campaign was part of the municipal strategy to root out the abuse of the indigent subsidy, also referred to as the deernis subsidy. The municipality is firmly focused on ensuring that those genuinely indigent are helped in whatever way possible.
Those who no longer qualify for the indigent subsidy are reminded to ensure their accounts are brought up to date to avoid any further legal actions and costs that will apply.
The request for the payment of the municipal accounts is based on the principle that if a service is used, it must be paid for as the municipality in turn has to pay for the service, such as pay Eskom for electricity.
The payment of your municipal account, therefore, contributes tremendously in ensuring that the municipality can fulfil its mandate of maintaining a high standard of service delivery at all times.
The municipality is also appealing to the public to not connect illegally to the municipal infrastructure as this is extremely dangerous and is also a theft of municipal resources, which is a criminal offence.
There was a fatality as a result of an illegal connection last year and the municipality strongly discourages this practice and appeals to the members of the public to always keep their safety in mind.
