MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality this week noted that a municipal worker in the Waste Management Department was injured last week during refuse removal, when handling a black refuse bag intended for household waste only, that contained a syringe and needle.
Members of the public are urged to discard medical waste in the correct manner by bringing it to the open days for discarding of hazardous household waste or by bringing it to the municipal transfer stations at KwaNonqaba and Sonskynvallei.
Both stations are opened seven days a week.
Three-bag system
The Mossel Bay Municipality runs a three-bag system for waste removal.
Black bags are only for household waste, blue bags are for recyclables and green bags for garden refuse.
Residents are reminded to put out their rubbish bags just before 07:00 on the day of collection. Leaving waste out the night before may lead to tampering with bags by unsavoury characters or animals.
