MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay man's son is confirmed to have been among those trapped in the building collapse in George on Monday afternoon, 6 May.
The man, Deon Safers, told George Herald, Mossel Bay Advertiser's sister publication, last night that his son, Delvin, was an electrician on the site.
This morning, Mossel Bay Advertiser journalist, Jannie du Plessis, is on the scene of the collapse, where teams are working around the clock to save those still trapped under the rubble in Victoria Street.
Lizette da Silva, the editor of George Herald, interviewed Deon, on the scene last night.
At that stage Delvin’s family was able to make contact with him where he was trapped, via a cellphone.
George Municipality confirmed that as of 07:15 this morning, a total of five people had been declared dead. Twenty-five patients have been removed from the rubble, leaving 49 people unaccounted for.
