MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A man who threatened a 75-year-old Mossel Bay woman with a knife before robbing her Heiderand home in March 2023, was recently sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment by the Mossel Bay Regional Court.
Brendan Swarts, who was 29 at the time of the robbery, knocked at the front door of the 75-year-old woman's Belden Street home on 13 March 2023, asking for food.
When the woman answered the door, Swart threatened her with a knife and entered her house, stealing a tablet, a TV, jewellery and other smaller goods to the value of R15 000 before leaving the scene.
A few weeks later, Swarts was linked to the robbery and was arrested after he was identified through his fingerprints. He was denied bail and stayed in custody until his sentence was handed down.
On 25 July this year, he was sentenced to 12 years' direct imprisonment on a charge of housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The Mossel Bay Police Station management thanked and congratulated forensic investigator Warrant Officer André Snyman of the George Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and Mossel Bay police detective Warrant Officer Erhard Briel for their solid investigative work that led to Swarts' sentencing.
Mossel Bay Police Station's Warrant Officer Erhard Briel was the investigating officer on the case.
