MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On 1 December, World Aids Day, Genesis Community Projects NPO hosted an event for its Close the Gap Gampaign, to spread awareness about HIV/Aids.
This event took place at the Barcelona Circle in KwaNonqaba. The purpose was to reduce stigma and educate children about HIV/Aids, as well as its prevention and treatment.
World Aids Day takes place annually to raise awareness and give support to people who are affected by it.
The linkage officer, John Phillipus of Genesis, said: "Our primary goal is to identify and re-engage individuals who aren't on HIV treatment and get them into care."
The importance of treatment to stop the spread of the virus was also a main topic at this event, with the help of educational pamphlets that were handed out by the Genesis group.
In attendance were the ACVV staff, KwaNonqaba police officers, the Mossel Bay Municipality, Ikhaya Boxing Club and the children of the area.

A mobile clinic did HIV testing and general checks, and some entertainment was organised by ACVV and Genesis, such as dancing, boxing, netball and soccer.
Hotdogs, soup, bread and water were handed out to the children. The atmosphere was lively and exciting, and the children had fun as they danced.
