MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Carol Walton, the founder of the Seabird and Penguin Rehabilitation Centre (Saprec), is urging Mossel Bay residents and holidaymakers alike to call the centre immediately should they spot any distressed seabirds.
Walton, who has been running the centre for 20 years and has handled countless emergency situations involving seabirds, said anyone who sees an injured seabird should not touch it, but rather call Saprec and monitor the bird from a distance until Walton or another Saprec member arrives.
Walton said people are discouraged from touching the distressed birds as they could injure them more or end up being bitten badly while trying to help them.
Saprec, an NPO situated in Mossdustria right off the N2, is open to visitors to learn about the birds the centre has rescued and rehabilitated.
For more information or to report a distressed bird, contact Walton on 082 364 3382.
