MOSSEL BAY | STILL BAY NEWS - The trial of five accused of the murder of Heila Kilian on a farm outside Still Bay in April 2018 is ongoing.
Kilian, who was visiting her sister Brenda and Brenda's husband David Thomas, was killed during the course of the attack, which lasted about two hours.
Kilian, the Thomas's and their tenant Shaun Vorster were enjoying an evening braai when they were attacked by five armed men, some of whom were wearing balaclavas.
Firearms, cash and various collectors knives were stolen as well as the Thomas's Toyota bakkie, which the accused allegedly used to make their escape in.
The state called Vorster as it's first witness when the trial commenced on 20 February. Vorster told the court how he was tied up, beaten and threatened during the attack.
Vorster recounted in chilling detail hearing David Thomas's cries of pain as he was being assaulted, as well as a sound like someone letting out a big sigh when Kilian was shot in the chest.
Kilian's husband Hein, who is attending the trial, became visibly upset as Vorster remembered how he ran past Heila's lifeless body as he ran to get help from neighbours after the attackers had made their escape.
Vorster also identified one of the accused as the person who allegedly threatened him with a firearm and tied him to a chair, however the veracity of this claim is being challenged by the accused defence.
Cross examination of Vorster's testimony is being postponed while the court hears arguments on the admissibility of the identity parade in which Vorster identified the accused.
The trial continues on Friday 21 February.
