MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay woman, Yvonne Thompson (57), was one of the top five in the Dream Girl pageant.
The final was held at the Ernest Oppenheimer Theatre in Welkom in the Free State on Saturday night, 10 December.
Former Mrs South Africa and Mrs International World, Tereza Troskie-Herbst, founded the pageant.
There were 64 semi-finalists in the competition. This number was reduced to 37 and then it was further reduced to only five.
With composure and grace, Thompson answered the question put to her during the gala event. "If you could swap places with someone, who would it be?"
Her answer was, the country singer Don Williams. She pointed out that singers made a contribution to people and helped them grow.
Yvonne was the oldest contestant on the stage. The pageant contestants collected about R300 000 worth of products and funds for charity. The focus of the competition was charity work and teaching women entrepreneurial skills.
Thompson won a R3 500 designer dress, R5 000 worth of beauty products and designer homeware, among other prizes.
The Southern Cape agent for the competition was Mossel Bay resident Elize van Vuuren. She was recognised by Troskie-Herbst as the top agent nationwide in terms of publicising the competition and attracting entrants for it. A George woman, Nerine Vermeulen, made it to the top 10 in the pageant.
