MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The new Miss International South Africa 2019, crowned on Youth Day and Father's Day, 16 June, is a product of Mossel Bay.
The pageant is one of the six largest worldwide.
Nicole Middleton (24), born in 1994, South Africa's first year of democracy, attended Point High School.
She is the daughter of well-known local, Colin Middleton, the friendly face of the popular Broodmandjie bakery and convenience store in Da Nova. A number of locals call him Oom Brood.
Nicole told the Mossel Bay Advertiser this week: "This was my first major pageant.

"I follow pageants on social media and I decided to give this one a try.
"I gave it my all; I really worked hard. I did not expect to win at all. The competition was extremely strong. There were very beautiful girls. When I got to the top two I could not believe it. As a newcomer, it was a shock to win. I am so happy; I cannot wait to begin my [charitable] responsibilities."
Nicole, a law graduate (LLB) from the University of South Africa (Unisa) will represent South Africa at the 2019 Miss International beauty pageant in November in Japan.
She works for a legal firm as a candidate attorney in Pretoria.
Colin told the Mossel Bay Advertiser: "I am so chuffed. This is the best Father's Day present I could ever have. Nicole will be coming to Mossel Bay for a photo shoot this year," he said, clearly delighted at the thought of seeing his daughter soon.
The pageant was held at Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg.
Nicole won a fully-paid trip to Japan for the international competition as her prize. She will be spending three weeks in Japan.
"I have four months to prepare," the pragmatic lawyer-to-be, who has only done a little freelance modelling before, said.
"I have to have a national costume and a dress ready for the contest."
