MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay artist Lucinda Watermeyer won a prize last weekend at the Wilderness Arts Festival, run by the Wilderness Art Association.
Every year the arts festival has a specific theme and this year it was Steampunk.
Mechanical Bettie, an A4-size watercolour painting, was Watermeyer's entry in the category, Art Challenge: Embracing The Theme, and she won the first prize in this category.
Watermeyer submitted a second work, Mechanical Beetle for the Festival, but it was her Mechanical Bettie which won her the prize.
She says: "I have been painting since I was about seven or eight years old.
"During my high school years, my mother encouraged me to specialise in watercolours, by buying me my first set of paints.
"I did a BA Communications at Free State University and only after my studies, went for watercolour courses to improve my skill. I practised journalism for many years and did art in between."
Watermeyer said: "I enjoyed the festival art challenge immensely as this was a theme totally outside my comfort zone. Congratulations to the organisers. This is a phenomenal festival and the organisers did an astounding job.
"The artworks on exhibition were of an extremely high standard and I truly believe this festival will grow from strength to strength. We, as artists, are extremely thankful for this platform to showcase our work."
