MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On Saturday, 12 November, a special celebration took place in the Mossel Bay Town Hall.
Not only was it the celebration of a milestone birthday for one of Mossel Bay's beloved locals, it was presented as a partially open event, to give thanks, to give back and to celebrate life.
The family of Alfred du Plessis, his wife Claire and sons Jarryd and Alain decided to celebrate Alfred's 60th birthday, by not only hosting an exclusive party, but opening the floor to charities to join them for a night out.
Invited to join them were Benevolent Park, the Rotary Club, St Peter's Anglican Church, Leolan Academy, Bhayete Cycling Club, Child and Family Welfare, D'Almeida Neighbourhood Watch, the ANC Women's League, Sea Vuna for Child Welfare, SANTA, CANSA and Sussex Cricket Club.
Twelve tables were set aside for family and friends. The charities could use their tables as they pleased to raise funds, but it was also a networking opportunity for those who would like to become involved in the worthy causes of charities in the local community.
Performing at the event was Claire's brother Ramon Alexander, who is a Cape jazz stalwart, along with this band.
Other artists included local jazz outfit G Minor, as well as Lynette Petersen from George and Kerwyn Adriaanse, who welcomed guests when they arrived.
The family is hoping to make this an annual celebration.
The family believes it is important to create opportunities, like Saturday's, to be thankful and show gratitude for grace given, to give back to the community and to celebrate the gift of life, regardless of circumstance.
