BUSINESS NEWS - Africa Skills George Tech, previously Africa Skills Private College, will welcome freshly enrolled students at their brand-new campus on 15 July and anytime thereafter.
The gala event and official opening took place yesterday, Thursday 11 July, at the premises on the corner of York Street and PW Botha Boulevard.
“Our new campus is in addition to our Ntaka campus in Thembalethu, which will continue to empower, equip and qualify thousands of new South African artisans,” said founding member Elsie Harmse, who runs a tight ship together with her husband Phlip.
Since its inception in 2006 in George 18 years ago, Africa Skills has changed the lives of almost 17 000 South African artisans. The Harmses form the executive management, running the business with a team of 64 personnel.
The Africa Skills range of courses is focused on the list of critical and scarce skills.
With the addition of the new campus, the available courses have expanded and now include the following trades: electrician, plumber, welder, carpenter, millwright, diesel mechanic, mechanical fitter, boilermaker, auto electrician, automotive mechanic and solar PV technician.
“We would like to thank the community, over 600 businesses that signed up with us as host employers, as well as schools that raise awareness of the need of vocational studies,” says Elsie. “They all supported us over the years and made it possible for us to qualify more people. Helping others towards a better future has always been my heart’s desire.”
She says that businesses are often unaware of the incredible financial advantages to them when they sign up as a portal for educational development through Africa Skills. Contact Harmse for more information on the programme on 044 884 0791 or send an email to study@africaskills.co.za.
