ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The Summer Baroque Season presented by the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra (CTBO) is back with three concerts in February in various venues across Cape Town.
So, if you happen to be there or can make your way down to the Mother City, don't miss this annual highlight of the Cape Town music scene.
The season includes a variety of baroque repertoire, including chamber, orchestral and vocal music.
All the music is played and sung by an exciting line-up of local and international artists.
Variations
In two repeat performances of the award-winning Variations programme on Saturday 1 February, the focus is on sets of variations or divisions that are built on thematic material originating from songs or hymns, performed by Lynelle Kenned (soprano), Ralitza Macheva (baroque violin) and the CTBO’s Artistic Director Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord), in the atmospheric Weltevreden chapel in Noordhoek.
String concerti, plus a suite or two!
In String concerti, plus a suite or two! on 12 February, two baroque violin soloists, Julia Wedman and Cristina Prats-Costa from Toronto, Canada are welcomed to our shores. Julia is also a member of the renowned Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.
They will lead the orchestra in a varied programme of orchestral repertoire in both the Italian and French baroque styles at the CTBO's home venue, St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in De Waterkant.
Queens & Kings
The last event of the season, Queens & Kings on 15 February, is a collaboration between CTBO, its regular partner Lutesong Consort, and South
African-born countertenor, Clint van der Linde, in a programme of some of his favourite repertoire that also showcases the varied roles the countertenor voice
served in a historical context.
In true Cape Town Baroque Orchestra style, there will be a complimentary glass of wine after each concert.
