RUGBY NEWS – Continuing its fine form in recent weeks, Bitou Rugby Club won both matches against Mossel Bay Titans last weekend, while Jaguars' first and third teams overcame George.
Saturday 20 May was a great day to be a supporter of Plettenberg Bay club rugby.
Bitou had the task of travelling to Mossel Bay for their SWD First Division B West encounter, while Jaguars had to make the trip to George for their SWD Super League A clash.
Bitou's sides faced a tough task, and the B teams got matters underway as per usual. A tight game followed, but Bitou ultimately managed to grind out a 10-7 victory. Looking to build on their colleagues' success, Bitou's first team strode out on the field next.
They did just that, largely controlling the game to make sure they were the victors when the final whistle blew, with a score of 24-15. Bitou remains undefeated in the league so far, winning all five of its games up to now.
Over in George, the third teams from Jaguars and George battled first, and played out a classic encounter that could've gone either way at any time. Jaguars C held their nerve, winning the tight clash 17-16.
Sadly for the men from Plett, their second team could not repeat this performance, and Jaguars B were beaten 50-10 by George B. Jaguars A set out, determined to avenge their colleagues.
Five tries helped them on their way to winning a cracker of a game, with the final score 29-26 in their favour. Jaguars have now risen to ninth on the log.
It was a tough weekend for Eagle Stars in SWD First Division A, who travelled to Brandwag near Mossel Bay to take on Happy Hearts. Their second team was the shining light, beating Happy Hearts B with a score of 17-6.
However, the only happy hearts after the first team game would be the hosts. After trailing 11-0 at half-time, Eagle Stars pulled back in the second half, but still missed a win by the narrowest margin, with Happy Hearts winning 1-10.
Knysna United did not play last weekend, as they held a memorial service in honour of former player Carson Muller, who sadly passed way last week. May he rest in peace.
