BOXING NEWS - In a closely-fought encounter IBF junior-middleweight champion Jarett Hurd added the WBA and IBO junior-middleweight belts to his collection, when he beat Erislandy Lara on a split decision at “The Joint” inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The scores were 114-113 for Lara and 114-113 twice for Hurd.
The much bigger Hurd (22-0; 15) was the aggressor throughout but the straight-punching southpaw Lara (25-3- 2; 14) scored with counter straight rights and lefts.
Hurd dropped Lara in the 12th round with just 37 seconds left and that gave Hurd the edge, otherwise the fight would have been a majority draw.
