MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The woman who allegedly defrauded the Diaz Hotel and Resort of almost R1.5m, Cindy Bessinger (31), made a brief appearance in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on today 24 June.
Bessinger, who had been in an administrative role at the hotel, had allegedly created invoices for services to and products for the establishment. However, the payments were allegedly paid to her account, and in some instances, her former boyfriend’s.
The almost 40 counts of fraud for which she is charged allegedly took place between October 2024 and March 2025.
Bessinger was previously released on bail of R20 000.
During her appearance today, the court heard that some documents had been handed to Bessinger’s attorney by the State this morning.
Her attorney confirmed that he had received these documents and requested that the matter be postponed by three to six weeks, so that he could go through them all and take instructions from Bessinger.
The matter was thus postponed to 12 August. Bessinger’s bail was also extended to her next appearance.
