MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 31-year-old Mossel Bay woman is facing almost 40 counts of fraud after the Diaz Hotel and Resort was defrauded of nearly R1.5m between October 2024 and March 2025.
The Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, said the Da Gamaskop Police arrested Cindy Bessinger on 31 March last year on these charges.
She has since been released on bail of R20 000.
According to the court documents, Bessinger, who had been in an administrative role at the hotel, had allegedly created invoices for services and products for the establishment, paying the money into her own account, and in some instances, her former boyfriend's.
The court documents further indicate the payments she made to her account over the period in question ranged between about R9 000 to just under R80 000.
Bessinger last appeared in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on 14 January.
She is expected to appear again on 5 March.
