MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay's annual holiday beach sports programme attracted more competitors this year than usual.
Also, children aged 10 to 14, who were only supposed to attend on one day with each sport code - attended on all days, playing alongside competitors much older than they.
This was because they were "so determined" municipal youth co-ordinator Yolandé van Aswegen, who organises the sports programme, said when interviewed at Santos Beach by the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
The programme comprised cricket, soccer and touch rugby, all played on Santos Beach.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport provided lunch packs and SWD Cricket and Rugby came on board, sponsoring tog bags and T-shirts.
The Garden Route Casino Community Trust sponsored prize money.
Mossel Bay Municipality provided transport for the players, who were bussed to Santos from Herbertsdale and Brandwag and also from parts of Mossel Bay.
The goal of the programme is to encourage young people to play sport and avoid negative influences in their communities.
Fun was had by all.
Van Aswegen said: "There was a good turnout. Each day I spoke to the participants about the dangers of substance abuse and the benefits of team sports. The Department of Health was also involved."
Next year the programme would be expanded to include volley ball, she said.
