GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - On 14 April, Eden Modern Pentathlon (MPA) was the host of the Laser Run Western Cape Championships at Glenwood House College in George.
Laser Run combines running and shooting in fast-paced and dynamic races including four rounds of laser pistol shooting from five to 10 metres and four times 400 to 800 metres.
Athletes have to hit a target five times before they can run. The total number of hits is 20 and the total running distance, 1 600 to 3 200 metres. A total of 75 athletes from WP, Cape Winelands and Eden entered the championships, with Eden achieving 27 medals in total: nine gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals.
Eden also had five special needs athletes from Carpe Diem competing in the TL20 Classification for Special Needs at this event.
The rules were strictly applied according to the UIPM regulations and the programme was run promptly according to the times on the programme handed to the athletes on registration. The main sponsor for the event was Hisense. Eden MPA also thanks DCAS, House of Aloes and Sportsman's Warehouse for their sponsorship as well as photographer Deidre Cloete.
