GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT GOLF NEWS - The 2020 ladies' champion of the Mossel Bay Golf Club is a rising star.
At the age of 15 she has already recorded impressive victories and has competed overseas.
Simoné Ferreira won the Mossel Bay Club ladies' champs in November and all eyes will be on her when she competes in the Pinnacle Point Club Championships in January.
She is a full member of both clubs and a member of the Louis 57 Junior Golf Academy, where her coach is Val Holland.

Before the age of six, Simoné started playing golf when her family lived in Klerksdorp. She was the Guppy of the Year for two years in a row at her golf club there. The family then moved to KwaZulu-Natal, where she was spotted by the president of ladies' golf and invited to be part of the KZN LGA Ladies' Golf Association. Simoné was nine years old then and living in Margate.
In 2015 she competed in the Junior Championships in the United States. In order to qualify, she took part in a tournament at Bronkhorstspruit, where, at the age of 10, she won in her category.

Her next achievement was finishing in the top five of the Nomads girls' U19 tournament in Orkney. She was only 11 years old. When she competed in the tournament again, when she was 12 and 13 years old, she placed in the top five again, making it a top five placing three years in a row.
Simoné then won the B division championships at Port Shepstone Country Club and went on to play in the Champion of Champions B division competition for the region, held in Kloof. She won this competition and went on to come second in the national Champion of Champions competition for the B Division held at Glendower Golf Club in Gauteng.
Because this young prodigy was not spending enough time on the golf course, owing to the rainy KZN weather, the family moved to Mossel Bay in December last year.
Only five weeks later Simoné achieved a hole in one at the fourth hole on the Mossel Bay Golf Course.
She is a par four at Pinnacle Point.
At Pinnacle Point, most people play the eighth hole on land, on the golf course, but Simoné takes a Tiger line, hitting her shot from the tee, over the ocean, straight for the green. The term "Tiger line" is in honour of Tiger Woods.
Simoné says: "I would like to be a professional golfer. I would love to spend more time on the golf course."
