FOOTBALL NEWS - Thembalethu-based team Bangalo collected three important points when they sank the Domestic League log leaders Black Cats 4-2 on Saturday afternoon, 25 June, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
For Lawaaikamp's Black Cats, Anda Kosi and Nkosiyabo Toto scored one goal each while Sibusiso Pietersen netted his brace (2) and Mpho Joka and Lwandile Mhlontlo scored one each for Bangalo. Bangalo are currently fighting for a top five spot on the Geolfa League log table.
Black Cats are at the top of the table with 64 points. They have played 28 games with twenty wins and four draws, and have lost in four meetings.
The Geolfa League match got off to a good start with Black Cats controlling the game from the centre of the field and Bangalo soaking up the pressure from the attacking flanks. After missing their first chance to score off a set piece, Bangalo tried to get the ball in the right position playing their passes from the back and opening up spaces.
However, Black Cats were first to score with a stunning strike from Anda Kosi in the first 15 minutes. Akhona Gamana of Bangalo delivered a marvellous cross inside the box but his teammate Sibusiso Pietersen failed to handle the ball. Bangalo were putting Black Cats on the defence using their pace on the wings.
Thulani Sontashe of Bangalo sent the ball inside the box after a strong attack from the left side of the field and Sibusiso Pietersen scored their equalising goal.
Bangalo gained more shape and confidence looking for the second goal. Nkosiyethu Seyibokhwe of Black Cats outsmarted Bangalo with his speed, but his solo effort was well defended by Bangalo, and their resulting corner kick was cleared away.
Sibusiso Pietersen of Bangalo scored his second goal after a beautiful cross from the right side of the field. Bangalo were leading 2-1 into the interval.
The second half saw both teams very sharp on the ball. Qhamani Nogqala and Lilitha Toto of Black Cats controlled the game from the centre of the field. A powerful shot by Ayabulela Jantjies of Black Cats was blocked by Bangalo goalkeeper Zolani Qatana.
Mpho Joka scored the third goal to make it 3-1 after Thulani Sontashe made a delightful pass from the centre of the field.
Black Cats were chasing the game and Nkosiyabo Toto scored their second goal. Black Cats kept up the pressure with strong attacks from their wingers, but Bangalo took the game from them during the last minutes with Lwandile Mhlontlo extending their lead to 4-2.
