POLITICAL NEWS - The DA in the Western Cape, that flighted its first voter registration campaign posters in Wellington earlier this month - the first party to do so in the province - are appealing to voters to keep the Western Cape blue.
In a statement released on Wednesday 11 October, the DA claims to be the only party that can keep "the ANC and EFF coalition of corruption out of the Western Cape".
In the statement the DA says the Western Cape works because the DA governs with a majority.
"Just this week, the DA-run Western Cape Government achieved a historic round of 100% unqualified audits, making it the province's best audit outcome in half a decade. This confirms that we can be trusted to manage taxpayer money without looting or stealing, and spend it effectively to make life better for our people."
In the statement they say the Western Cape is home to:
- the lowest unemployment rate in South Africa with 54 000 new jobs in the last quarter;
- more than 1200 provincial Law Enforcement officers trained under the LEAP programme in partnership with the City of Cape Town;
- an overall 5,5% decrease in the murder rate in the last quarter; and
- a R7-billion budget to be spent across the province to end load shedding over the next three years, which will enable R69-billion of private sector investment in energy.
The DA urges residents to register as voters. "Note that you can only vote where you are registered, so if you have changed your address, then you need to update your details with the IEC."
