Update
NATIONAL NEWS - The South African Department of Water and Sanitation's key participation in the 2022 Stockholm World Water Week comes to an end today, as Minister Senzo Mchunu participated in his last talk session this morning.
It's been a week of breakthroughs and valuable insights into the world of water and the precarious position that countless people around the world find themselves in due to the varying nature of water availability across the planet.
Be it polluted water, too much water, saline water or just outright water scarcity, billions around the world face the challenge of access to clean, drinkable water on a daily basis.
This is a main reason why this week's conference in Stockholm was crucial. Another is that the week has been used to make preparations for the 2023 United Nations Water Conference due to take place in March in New York, United Stated of America.
It is fitting then that one of the final sessions that Mchunu participated in before his return to South Africa was titled “Preparing for an inclusive and action-oriented UN 2023 Water Conference”.
The session included a brief introduction to the 2023 conference followed by an update on the road to the conference. It also highlighted the opportunities for stakeholders to participate and contribute to the conference's objectives to accelerate progress toward the targets of the United Nations Development Programme's 2030 sustainable development goals agenda.
The 2022 Stockholm World Water Week will officially come to an end tonight with the closing mingle and dance function.
