GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - The Great Brak River (GBR) Conservancy members were testing their kayaking skills on Wednesday morning, 14 September, to do their bit for National River Clean-up Day.
According to Scott Thompson, chairman of the GBR Conservancy, much litter - mainly food packaging, bottles and general plastic blown in from the land - was removed.

A plastic chair and an umbrella were also found and removed. "The health of the river and environment is a collective community responsibility and we appreciate everyone's buy-in, involvement and support, not only today but every day. It may not be our litter but it's our environment and responsibility."
Representation from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries was there to monitor proceedings.
The department also provided educational booklets on topics such as air quality, marine aquaculture and the impact of climate change on the fishing industry.
The kayaks were on loan from the local Vagabond Kayaks shop.
Tomorrow, Saturday 17 September, is official International Coastal Clean-up Day.
A clean-up will take place at Suiderkruis, Great Brak, starting at 10:00. The GBR Conservancy invites the public to join and be involved in making a positive impact on the environment.
