MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The volunteers for the Mossel Bay Police Station Community Policing Forum (CPF) horse patrols are out and about on beaches and ready to assist where necessary.
They keep a watchful eye, having clear visibility to ensure peace of mind for holiday makers.
Each year a group of volunteer riders make themselves and their horses available to assist the Mossel Bay Police CPF with patrols on beaches.
"As with most organisations, our budget is limited and we are appealing to the community to come forward and assist us with donations," said CPF chairman, Arthur Riordan.
The community is asked to donate any of the following, if possible:
• Funds: these will be used to buy food for the horses and diesel vouchers to assist with the transport of the animals. To donate money, contact Riordan (082 702 2607) or the CPF secretary (082 880 1838).
• Lucerne/carrots/apples for the animals as treats.
• Water for the riders and animals. This can be handed out on the route.
Riordan said any other donations would also be gladly accepted. "We thank you for your investment in the community."
Leon van Dyk, portfolio chairman of Community Safety at the municipality, said the commitment of the riders and their horses make a huge impact every year.
Van Dyk said the riders are committed to this strategic partnership that continues to serve the community. "We are pleased to be a partner and to receive the goodwill. Please show them support when you see them."
