MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Less than 24 hours after a young man, attending the Matriekbaai, reported his cellphone stolen at knife-point, two Mossel Bay police officers recovered the phone and arrested two men.
The man, from Pretoria, had reportedly been walking in town, looking for a place to stay during Matrikbaai, when he came across three men in Market Street, who offered to show him where to go.
After walking for a short while, one of the three men allegedly pulled out a knife, held it to the victim's throat and demanded he give him his cellphone.
The three then allegedly ran off with the cellphone.
The incident was reported to the Mossel Bay Police Station on Sunday, 1 December at about 12:30.
Sergeants Pieter Coetzer and Ricardo Gelderbloem immediately went into town and began gathering information.
The victim was unsure in which street the robbery took place and, upon walking around town, asking about the incident, the two sergeants were able to find out where the incident occurred and who one of the suspects was.
The first suspect was arrested at 13:45 at the taxi rank in Mossel Bay. This then led to finding the second suspect, just before 15:00 in Tarka.
The third suspect is still being sought by the police.
CCTV footage, obtained from the municipal Joint Operation Centre (JOC) by the police officers, also showed the entire robbery.
The officers then managed to track down the victim's phone, which had been sold to a shop in town and had been sent to George to be wiped. The victim got his phone back on Sunday, 2 December.
The two men were charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances.
