GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality has responded to objections received from the Great Brak River community about the detour needed for construction work on the circle at Amy Searle Road and Long Street.
A site inspection was conducted on 5 October.
Several proposals have thoroughly been investigated:
- The option to build the circle half, and/or quarter widths is not feasible due to the insitu ground conditions, the layer work design and existing web of services
- The proposed detour going behind the church, as well as the proposed shortcut from St John's crescent are also not feasible due to various obstructions, the steep gradient, public liability and general safety concerns especially at night.
- It was decided to construct a single, temporary gravel road available along the church fence and to operate a one-way stop-n-go (Circle pdf)
- This bypass is for the normal traffic only; all heavy vehicles will be prevented and must drive around the Quarry / Rheebok stene (Aerial pdf)
- The start date for work on the circle is planned for Monday, October 19, and it is estimated that the work on the circle will be completed within seven days, where after the road will be re-opened to traffic. Please note this is weather dependent and doesn’t includes any unforeseen that may arise. Mossel Bay Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience.
Alderman Cliffie Bayman said "The presence of very old infrastructure under the existing road that has to be removed as well as the likelihood of legal liability compels the municipality to follow this alternative," Alderman Bayman thanked the community for their patience and asked that residents be tolerant as the improvements are planned with the benefit of future generations in mind.
Verskeie voorstelle is deeglik ondersoek:
