MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two men in their 20s were shot and killed in an open field next to Louis Fourie Road in Asla Park, KwaNonqaba on Wednesday night,
16 July.
The victims, identified as Aphelele Qhagana (22) and Ayanda Dlongwe (25), sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies.
The incident took place in the open field at the corner of Louis Fourie Road and Crotz Street at about 21:15.
KwaNonqaba police had responded to reports of gunshots that evening. Upon arrival they found the bodies of the two young men in the field, reportedly surrounded by community members.
They were declared dead on the scene by emergency medical services.
When Mossel Bay Advertiser visited the scene the following morning, large blood stains, the result of their fatal wounds, could still be seen.
Family members of Qhagana and Dlongwe told the Advertiser that they were devastated by the loss of the two young men.
Dlongwe's father, who asked not to be named, described his son as "a good boy", stating that no one had any complaints about him.
"It is a very painful time. Our hearts are broken, no one expected such a loss," said Dlongwe's father.
Qhagana's brother, Sibongiseni, told the Advertiser he was close to Aphelele. He said his brother was a funny person and was someone who loved to joke around.
It is unclear whether Qhagana and Dlongwe knew each other.
The KwaNonqaba police are investigating two murder dockets. Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the motive for the murders is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made.
