MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Garden Route Primary School announced the name of its brand new playground last weekend.
It is the Mivuyo Homane Memorial Playing Field.
Mivuyo Homane (11) died in a tragic accident on 19 April 2018, when he landed under a tipper truck, used to dump soil on a piece of ground that the school wanted to transform into a playing area for the learners.
"The moment I saw his name, I knew that his angels were with us," said his mother, Nolusindiso, who attended the opening of the playground.
"After what happened in 2018, I felt like the world was turned against me. After that tragedy I felt there would be no life after, because I loved my son."

But after the opening of the playing field on 17 February, she felt as if her son was back she said.

"What the Garden Route Primary principal has done is unforgettable. I saw that tragedy touched many lives, not only mine and my family."
More than 14 organisations came together to sponsor this playground. Until recently, the more than 1 600 learners who attend Garden Route Primary only had two concrete slabs to play on.
Mossel Bay mayor, Dirk Kotzé, attended the opening of the playground.
"Two years ago, the then principal, Nicolas Gertse, showed us these slabs and together with 14 businesses and 50 professional staff we set out to bring a bright, green, beautiful new playing field to the learners of Garden Route Primary School.
"May this field, in the years to come, bring joy to all young learners at the school. I thank our partners for their hard work, commitment and generosity in making this dream a reality.
"This playing field is also part of the legacy of Mr Gertse. He just never gave up. Over many years, he lobbied role players to invest in the future of his school and the athletic prowess of his young charges.
"May the Mivuyo Homane Memorial Playing Field be but a step in the history of the Garden Route Primary School community and its efforts to better the lives of our next generation of leaders."
