MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality's Community Safety portfolio chairman, Leon van Dyk, had a meeting with key stakeholders regarding the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and residents using or living near Louis Fourie Road.
The municipality's mayor, Dirk Kotzé, placed a post about the meeting on his Facebook page, noting that the meeting included local cyclists, athletic clubs, community policing forums, neighbourhood watch groups, the municipality's Joint Operation Centre, Hartenbos Runners and representatives from the municipality.
During the meeting, Van Dyk outlined the municipality’s available resources and support mechanisms.
Some of the key discussion topics were:
• Exploring the use of radar cameras along Louis Fourie Road to improve safety for cyclists, runners and pedestrians.
• Engaging with residents of Asazani in JCC Camp to discuss safety improvements, such as fencing.
• Enhancing coordination between law enforcement agencies and improving communication from the police regarding potential arrests and investigations.
• Scheduling meetings with police stations in Da Gamaskop and Mossel Bay to strengthen their involvement.
• Targeted operations to be executed by the police, with support from the municipality and other relevant agencies.
