Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - After numerous requests from the public, the Mossel Bay Municipality has decided to adjust the ongoing water restrictions as they relate to the watering of gardens in its municipal area, effective immediately.
The municipality announced the adjustment via a public notice released on 9 April.
Water restrictions were first implemented on 12 January in response to Mossel Bay’s total available water supply, which had dropped to between 60% and 50%.
Residents were previously allowed to water their gardens two days a week, for one hour at a time, between 18:00 and 19:00.
However, due to the recent adjustment, residents can now water their gardens between 17:00 and 18:00 on the same days.
The adjustment accommodates the approaching autumn and winter seasons, allowing working individuals as well as elderly residents time to water their gardens during daylight hours.
According to the notice, individuals requiring a waiver from the restrictions may apply in writing to the office of the Municipal Manager, Colin Puren.
Any waivers that were previously granted by the municipality will remain in effect, as well as all other water restrictions implemented in January.
Any decision to waive Mossel Bay’s water restrictions or include additional control measures will be made by Puren and Mayor Dirk Kotzé based on the circumstances at the time.
