MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Blaize Away Shellhole of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH) hosted its annual Remembrance Day Parade today, Sunday, 9 November at the Cenotaph at The Point.
This was in solemn remembrance of the cessation of hostilities on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, marking the end of the First World War.
Observed across the world, Remembrance Day pays tribute to the men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their countries during times of war and peace.
MOTH members, military veterans, members of the security forces, and members of the public who share in the spirit of remembrance were in attendance.
After the names of the fallen had been read, various bodies and organisations had the opportunity to lay wreaths at the Cenotaph to commemorate them.
The Mossel Bay Cenotaph was originally unveiled on 28 September 1928. It commemorates the fallen of the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, the South African Border War and the Iraq War.
In 2024 the Cenotaph was further enhanced when 48 additional names were inscribed on the Roll of Honour. A special dedication is made to Mossel Bay residents in uniform who lost their lives while serving their community.
