MOSSEL BAY NEWS - How about enjoying an art lesson or two while you are on holiday in December?
Mossel Bay's Estelle McIlrath gives art lessons to anyone eight years and older.
She has been teaching art at her studio in Dana Bay for about two decades.
Estelle always says to people: "There's no such thing as someone being a failure at art."
Remarkable results
She has achieved remarkable results from people who thought they had no artistic talent, people considered disabled and Alzheimer's patients.
Estelle lets her students explore multiple art media. They do not only paint and draw.
Her lessons help with improving fine motor skills, problem-solving and truly seeing nature - plants, animals and human anatomy - not just looking and forgetting.
Estelle's students leave her lessons with a spring in their step. They find them a stress reliever.
She encourages her students to explore techniques and media that they have never explored before, thus encouraging "new pathways" to be formed in the brain.
'Every lesson was fun'
Feedback from her students is that they did not feel as if they were doing any work, because every lesson was fun.
She has a scrapbook full of students' work, demonstrating how they have produced art far better than expected from someone their age or with their experience.
Her studio is a treasure trove of items from nature and of artworks, which she constantly refers to, as she explains techniques and encourages students to observe their subject matter closely and deliberately.
See creation in a new way
She will open your eyes and help you see creation, art and design in a new way.
Estelle's lessons are reasonably priced. She encourages people to give the gift that keeps on giving. Art lessons make a perfect gift for birthdays and Christmas. She also offers workshops for groups and for families. They can be a bonding exercise for families.
