MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The D'Almeida Public Library successfully conducted a basic computer skills training course for unemployed youth, aged 19 to 35, from 8 to 9 September.
The training content which was compiled by the librarian included these topics: parts of a computer, using the mouse and keyboard, navigating windows, saving or storing information, typing a curriculum vitae, as well as creating and using an email account.
All interested individuals were asked to complete a computer skills assessment questionnaire, not only to assess their basic knowledge of computer skills but to determine whether the training offered would be suitable.
Following the initial assessment, seven unemployed youths benefited from the training. They were also given assistance to register for job opportunities.
Digital literacy starts with the basic computer skills one needs in order to use technology. Without understanding computer fundamentals and typing techniques, people are ultimately stalled in their pursuit for knowledge.
The training was presented by the Mossel Bay Municipality in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and their Year Beyond YeBoneers Information and Computer Technology (ICT) programme.
"I found the training very interesting and I learnt so much. I never thought I would get an opportunity like this to learn more about computers. This knowledge will definitely equip me for the future. I am truly grateful for this opportunity," said one of the trainees. - Mossel Bay Municipality
