MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Young Joshua Pienaar (5) of Mossel Bay is looking forward to the Mini Toughest Firefighter Alive contest on 28 September in Mossel Bay.
Like a true fighter, he talks himself up.
He says he likes firefighting competitions because he's the toughest firefighter and he can beat anyone.
He's learnt verbal sparring at a young age.
Favourite
His favourite part of the experience, which he participated in last year, is "spraying the hose on the firemen".
When asked what he wants to be one day, there is no hesitation: "A fireman."
The reason is that: "I can spray the whole city when it's on fire."
He wants to enter the competition because he wants to "learn to be a fireman".
Outfit
Joshua plans to wear a special fireman outfit to the competition, with his own badge.
He says: "I'll beat this competition because I'm strong. I'll beat every fireman at this competition."
He says he wants to be like his neighbour, Jaycee Botha, who is a firefighter at Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services.
Joshua says that when he was three years old, he "gave his bottles to the firemen so they could give them to the poor people who have babies".
The main national Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA) Challenge will also take place in Mossel Bay.
Firefighters
From 26 to 28 September, firefighters from all over the country will compete against one another at the De Bakke Beach parking area.
Entry to the three-day event is free. The Mini TFA is only on one day - 28 September.
Registration for the Mini TFA opens on 28 September from 09:30 at the De Bakkie Beach parking area and the competition starts at 10:00.
For more information about the TFA competition, contact Mark Smith (071 676 4272) or see www.frimedia.org/tfa.
Sometimes firefighters do outreaches involving schoolchildren.
