MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Great Brak man, Driaan Terblanche (32), appeared in the Great Brak River Periodical Court recently on two charges of assault.
A man named JP Ellard and a female friend had been visiting Terblanche on his Great Brak River farm on 13 February when an argument erupted.
A Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcom Pojie had previously told Mossel Bay Advertiser that Terblanche allegedly discharged his firearm and tried to run Ellard and his friend over, and allegedly rammed their vehicle when they tried to leave the property.
They fled from their car and managed to escape.
Pojie had said that a case of attempted murder had been opened at the Great Brak River Police Station.
However, according to court documents, Terblanche is facing two charges of assault with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm.
When asked about this difference in charges, Pojie said the National Prosecuting Authority has the prerogative to amend and/or add charges.
Terblanche was granted bail of R5 000 on 16 February with a few conditions, including that he has no contact with the complainants and that he does not interfere with any witnesses. The matter has been postponed to 12 June.
