MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Gift of the Givers made a donation in the form of sanitary pads to women and girls in the D'Almeida area on Thursday 21 August.
The handover took place at the Da Gamaskop Police Station in Mossel Bay, as part of the foundation's Women's Month project.
The project also has a strong focus on gender-based violence, which predominantly affects women and girls.
Members of the Gift of the Givers Foundation met with personnel of the Da Gamaskop Police Station, a group of women and young children, as well as learners from Sao Bras High School and Hillcrest Secondary School.
Many of the women present were victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
Lieutenant Colonel Maria Gerber and the Acting Station Commander of Da Gamaskop, Lieutenant Colonel Edy Williams, shared words of encouragement and explained how residents could approach the police when instances of domestic violence and abuse take place in their homes or someone else's.
Guest speakers shared stories of their own survival of abuse, emphasising to the group that help is available.
To curb the cold weather, ladies of the SAPS Women's Network handed out cups of hot coffee and sandwiches for the group.
South Africa celebrates Women's Month throughout August each year.
