MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Wildlife photographer Frieda Prinsloo (77) enjoys taking pictures at the Hartenbos River Mouth and at Dana Bay.
She often captures images of whales, dolphins and birds, with birds being her favourite subject matter.
Mossel Bay Advertiser published a photograph she took of two dolphins jumping out of the surf, off Dana Bay, recently.
Snakebird
The latest photographs received from Frieda are of a snakebird at Hartenbos River Mouth. It's formal name is the African darter. In Afrikaans it is called a slanghalsvoël.
Frieda has won a number of international and national awards for her photographs. She won a national photography competition run by Die Burger newspaper in 2015.
Before moving to Mossel Bay, Frieda and her husband, Jan Adriaan, lived in Parklands, a suburb near Bloubergstrand in Cape Town.
'Every day in nature'
"We spent every day in nature!" Frieda exclaims.
She and Jan Adriaan also took photographs at weddings.
"He was a really good photographer." Jan Adriaan taught her a lot about photography. They made their own enlargements, in black and white and colour, in a darkroom in their home. "We worked together for more than 50 years," Frieda reminisced.
Wildlife reserves
The couple enjoyed taking photographs at wildlife reserves.
Jan Adriaan passed away in 2022 and Frieda moved to Mossel Bay in November that year to be close to her daughter, who lives in Mossel Bay.
