MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The youngsters of the local dance school, Urban Dance Co, have officially earned themselves Protea colours during the Sasaff Hip Hop Unite South African Championship.
"This moment, this incredible moment, is the one we've all dreamt of," said the owner and head coach, Alexis O'Reilly.
The school competed in the competition on the weekend of 28 and 29 June and the dancers brought home three silver medals and one bronze medal.
They competed in four categories:
• Cadets, small crew (7-13 years): Untxld - silver
• Juniors, small crew (12-18 years): Unique - silver
• Adults, duo (16+ years): Uncaged - bronze
• Juniors, mega crew (12-18 years): Urban Uproar - silver.
"To every dancer who showed up, gave their all and never gave up, you made this happen. To every parent who supported from the sidelines, cheered through the nerves and believed in us, thank you," said the school.
"We are also incredibly proud to share that head coach Alexis O'Reilly and assistant coach Alison O'Reilly have officially qualified to receive their Protea badges as coaches."
Juniors, mega crew (12-18 years): Urban Uproar.
Alexis said: "I never would've imagined that this would happen in the very first year of having my own studio. "The Urban Dance Co will be celebrating its first birthday on 1 August - this incredible achievement is just the beginning of that celebration."
Juniors, small crew (12-18 years): Unique.
They have now qualified to represent South Africa on the world stage at the Hip Hop Unite World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, this October.
Cadets, small crew (7-13 years): Untxld.
"We will stand tall in our Protea colours and do our best to make Mossel Bay, George and our entire country proud. This is more than just a qualification. It's a symbol of resilience, passion and unity."
Adults, duo (16+ years): Uncaged.
