MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In collaboration with several organisations, the Mfundo Lee Marasi Foundation hosted a career exhibition for matric learners at the Mossel Bay Town Hall on Thursday 5 March.
Some of the organisations included the Western Cape departments of Labour, Social Development, Forestry, Fishery and the Environment, as well as the Iziko South African Museum, Transnet National Port of Authority and Nelson Mandela University, among several others.
Grade 12 learners of Sao Bras High, Curro Mossel Bay, Garden Route High, Indwe Secondary, Hillcrest Secondary and Great Brak Secondary School took the opportunity to engage with the representatives, asking questions relevant to pursuing potential careers in the future, once they have matriculated.
The space was soon buzzing with the learners’ excited energy as they moved between each of the organisations.
Mossel Bay’s Mayor Dirk Kotzé also attended as one of the guest speakers for the day. He shared his own career journey with the learners, detailing his beginnings as an entrepreneur and his journey to becoming a politician.
“I reminded the learners that everyone’s journey is different, and that is part of what makes each person’s story unique. What matters is not how your journey starts, but how determined you are to keep moving forward,” he posted on Facebook on Thursday afternoon.
Other guest speakers included the South African National Youth Development Agency’s executive chairperson, Dr Sunshine Myende, and Lieutenant General Malungisa Sitshongaye of the South African National Defense Force.
The Mfundo Lee Marasi Foundation is a non-profit company that aims to empower the youth through education, sport and health opportunities.
