MOSSEL BAY NEWS - KwaNonqaba Police have arrested four people in connection with three separate fatal stabbing incidents which took place in the period, 29 March to 6 April, in Asla Park, KwaNonqaba.
Three arrests were made within just 24 hours of two of the incidents.
Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, the KwaNonqaba Police Station spokesperson, said the Asla Park community had been instrumental in the four arrests. Some residents had found two suspects alleged to be connected to one of the murders and called the police to arrest them.
The first stabbing took place on 29 March, with 31-year-old Mluleki Debula declared dead, with a stab wound to his upper body. The incident took place in Dywili Street just after 23:00.
An hour after the murder, police had arrested a 28-year-old man. He was traced to New Rest informal settlement.
The 28-year-old, Lupho Mnxiweni, appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on 1 April. The case was postponed to 15 April for a formal bail application.
Giyani
On the afternoon of Wednesday, 2 April, police were called to Giyani informal settlement, where they found the body of a man in the yard of a home.
Kapp said there was a stab wound in the upper body. The man was soon identified as 33-year-old Siviwe Jacobs. A case of murder was opened and Warrant Officer Geoffrey Moos was assigned the case.
Following an in-depth investigation, a team of KwaNonqaba Police officers arrested a 32-year-old man on Monday, 7 April, just after 04:00 in New Rest informal settlement.
The suspect was set to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 9 March. The outcome of his court appearance was not known at the time of going to print.
The most recent stabbing, for which two teenagers were arrested, took place on Sunday morning, 6 April.
Kapp said police responded to a call about a fight that had taken place in Mayekiso Street, Endlovini, just before 08:00. Upon their arrival, they found 35-year-old Yongama Msindo lying dead in the street, in front of a home.
Kapp said he had multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
Two teenagers
Later that day, police received a call from some members of the Asla Park community, who said they had found two teenagers, believed to have been involved in Msindo's murder.
Kapp said investigations by the police would have led to arresting the two minors, however, with the help of the community, they were able to find them and arrest them sooner.
The two, aged 16 and 17, were expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 9 April.
The outcome of their court appearance was not known by the time of going to print.
Kapp said the KwaNonqaba Police detectives and arresting officers would continue to work around the clock to bring criminals to book and ensure victims and their families receive justice.
