MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Danette Erasmus of Mossel Bay is a born artist, whose talent is lived out in all aspects of her life.
Although not formally trained, she has worked in floral styling and interior design.
Her clothing, jewellery, home and even her diaries all show her keen eye for the aesthetic.
She has a collection of pieces of antique crockery she has found on the beach and near the St Blaize trail in Mossel Bay.
During the hard lockdown last year, when no one could go to the beach, Danette even found two pieces of crockery pushed out of the ground, on mole hills near her home.
She says it is as if the Lord was looking after her need to collect beautiful items, even then.

While other people will see only plastic bottle tops and polystyrene on the beach, Danette will find treasures.

Music notes
Once she was strolling along the water's edge, singing. She complained: "Lord, I can't even keep a tune!" Then a few paces later, she saw a piece of china with music notes on it.
She has also found two bits of glass with her mother's and father's names on them - Ria and Len.
"The reason I came to Mossel Bay was to be with my parents, so this was confirmation that I am where I am meant to be," Danette says. Her personal journals are works of art. She draws and paints in them and experiments with different pens and handwriting styles.
Danette has filled her home with items of beauty - from a hand embroidered handkerchief to a neatly woven bird's nest.
Currently she is making jewellery - pendants, using the treasures she finds: little shells, feathers or pottery shards, set in resin. See Danette's pictures on Instagram: yishkajohn or e-mail her (yishkajohn@gmail.com).
