MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A well-known businessman from Mossel Bay, who has allegedly been running from the law for approximately the last 14 years, was arrested by members of the Mossel Bay police and an independent financial crimes investigation company, IRS Forensic Investigations, at his home in Muller Street on Thursday 16 July.

Walterman Beling (52), aka Gert de Kok or Gert Moolman, has been living in Mossel Bay for the last year and is the owner a take-away and a butchery in the area. He was arrested by the Mossel Bay police and an independent financial crimes investigation company, IRS Forensic Investigations at his home in Muller Street last week. 

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, Beling was arrested on a warrant that was issued in 2007 after he failed to appear in court in Krugersdorp on a charge of fraud in 2006.

"The suspect appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday 17 July, where the case was postponed until 24 July when he will appear in Krugersdorp," said Pojie.

According to the CEO of IRS Forensic Investigations, Chad Thomas, Beling has been using several aliases in the 14 years that he has been a wanted man.

"All the while he was living in plain sight in Mossel Bay running several businesses and enjoying a good life centred around playing golf and regularly visiting the local casino," he said.

Thomas also expressed his gratitude to the Mossel Bay police for their professionalism in this case.
