MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It may be the 14th Buffalo Rally hosted in Mossel Bay, but the key organisers, Luderick and Helewese Jacoby of the Nomads Motorcycle Club have been organising the event for the past 28 years. In total, they have personally attended 30.
The organisers of the Buffalo Rally, the Nomads, have tremendous tenacity in dealing not only with the 5 000 or so bikers over the weekend of the event but in the run-up to the rally have to attend to a myriad arrangements.
This year, as always they have regularly met with the local representatives of the various law enforcement and emergency services to plan for any eventuality and to ensure every possible legal aspect is taken care of. On Tuesday, 8 April the last joint meeting took place with every aspect covered in detail.
For the first time the Buffalo Rally will be hosted within the jurisdiction of the Da Gamaskop Police Station and acting station commander Col Maurice von Egmont has wished the organisers well. Captain Vigie Julius and his team will operate a joint operations centre for the duration of the rally to ensure that every eventuality receives the necessary attention.
At the last meeting, the Nomads learnt that the route of the mass ride would vary from what they had become used to over the years, and as the organising club they will lead the thousands of bikers through D'Almeida and Tarka for the first time.
The rally being hosted in Hartenbos for the first time poses unique challenges to the organisers who, by the look of things, are taking everything in their stride.
