MOSSEL BAY NEWS - ETHAN (the Education and Training Hub for Autism Needs) has partnered with Linkey and Warren Jones, seasoned youth pastors and champions of the Ntombi and Impi Camp Concept.
Linkey and Warren have been running camps for young boys and girls who have experienced trauma or loss in their lives for the past five years. These camps provide enriching experiences that grow the self-esteem and confidence of every child who has had the privilege of being part of these camps.
Diane Hobbs from ETHAN has partnered with Linkey and Warren Jones to run some camps for children with additional needs. The Impi Divergents Camps for boys and Ntombi Divergents Camps for girls were then designed.
From 18 to 20 May the Impi Divergents Camp was run and last weekend (8-10 June) the Ntombi Divergents Camp was held at Ruiterbosch Lodge in Ruiterbos.
Louise from Ruiterbosch Lodge is an outstanding hostess for these camps. She and her staff really go the extra mile to make campers feel right at home.
The girls' camp was so popular that instead of the 15 planned campers it ended up with 22 girls. There was a group of girls from ZJ Hulpsentrum, Siyanithanda and APD Mossel Bay. At each camp there are a special group of volunteer carers that make it possible for a variety of children, some with epilepsy and special needs and some who have not been able to venture out for a night away from home to enjoy themselves.
The boys and girls at camp are encouraged to celebrate their uniqueness and to grow in the knowledge that each of them are “fearfully and wonderfully made” with a unique place in this world and a special purpose.
The girls' camps take this one step further with a princess ball on the last day. Each girl gets a makeover and is transformed into a beautiful princess with hair, make-up and ball gown. This is the highlight of the girls' camp in which the young girls see their inward and outward transformation come together.
It truly takes teamwork to make such a camp a success. Planning and organisation and the loving and attentive care for each of the children on camp are remarkable. There are a host of volunteers, staff, teachers and carers who work together as a tight-knit team to make these camps possible.
