MOSSEL BAY NEWS - With the approval of Mossel Bay Municipality, the Santos Beach area was again used for the removal and assembly of floating hoses that form part of the single point mooring (SPM) marine loading facility (buoy) situated in Mossel Bay.
It is operated by PetroSA and Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) for the discharging and loading of petroleum products and due for a statutory dry-dock inspection.
According to the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and the manufacturer’s guidelines, it is recommended the buoy and equipment be dry-docked for inspection and repairs after being in operation for a period not exceeding 10 years.
The buoy was last dry-docked and repaired in October 2009.
Cleaning up and rehabilitation of the area will follow.
